Will Rock You at CC Club in London

CC Club

After months of planning that began almost immediately after Robyn’s passing earlier this year, August 29 th finally arrived, and with it, the Robyn Brooks Sunshine Concert, which took place at the CC Club in London’s Piccadilly. Performers from the hit West End musical, “We Will Rock You”, took to the stage to pay tribute to Robyn. Mig Ayesa – who plays the lead in the show – Jodie Jacobs, Peter Johansson and Cameron Jack put together a fantastic set which included original material, songs from the shows and other covers.

Long time supporters of the trust, Scott Wright and Stefan Booth, also came along and read a poem called “If Tomorrow Starts Without Me” and a message from Garry and Karen respectively. Jodie then sang “No-One But You (Only The Good Die Young)”, a song written by Brian May after Freddie Mercury’s death, which is included in the show. There was barely a dry eye in the house as the audience realised just how poignant the lyrics were to Robyn’s story too.

Other highlights included Cameron’s kazoo playing in “Baker Street”, Peter’s version of “Roxanne” and Mig’s own song, “Home In Me”, as well as the finale of “Seasons Of Love” from RENT, which was sung by all four performers and was so well received that all of the audience were on their feet by the end of the song, applauding.

The tombola and raffle were popular all night long, with the lucky raffle winners walking off with a pair of tickets and a backstage tour of “We Will Rock You”, and a mobile phone, MP3 player and digicam, kindly donated by Coca-Cola.

Around £500 has been raised so far, with money still coming in. For details on the audio and video recordings that are available, and the photos which are on sale, please email …………..
